If thinking is causing you anxiety, more thinking ain’t the solution.
Keeping this short so you don’t start overthinking thinking…
As a “thinking addict,” I frequently think myself into oblivion.
It’s a hard hole to climb out of.
But, as you know, the solution is incredibly simple.
Here’s what I recommend.
- Stop
- Close your eyes and take 6 deeeeeep breaths
- Stand up
- Go do something (Run, walk, gym, water plants, laundry, clean, play, music, anything!)
The trick is noticing when you’re overthinking and then actually stopping yourself.
When you’re ready to come back to the thing, write out what you’re thinking and make a list.
This allows you to see your blind spots, prioritize, and come back to the present.
If it’s really bad, call someone.
Then create a box and get to work for a specific amount of time (Set an alarm).
Try this the next time you’re headed into a thinking binder.
